C.W. McCall, de son vrai nom Billy Dale Fries, né le 15 novembre 1928 à Audubon (Iowa), est un chanteur engagé américain ayant composé et interprété de nombreux Novelty-folk songs.
Sa chanson "Convoy" a inspiré l'excellent film Convoy réalisé, en 1978, par Sam Peckinpah et sera reprise dans la bande originale.
Il est aussi l'auteur des titres "Kidnap America", enregistré lors de la prise d'otages américains en Iran (1979/1981), "Pine Tars War", composé à la suite d'un incident lord d'un match de baseball, Kansas City Royals contre New Yorks Yankees, en 1983, ou "There won't be no country music (There won't be no rock 'n' roll)".
La chanson "Convoy" a été interprétée en allemand par Martin Mann sous le titre "Die große Autoschlange".
En suédois, Pierre Isacsson a chanté "Vägens vänner" alors que Mats Rådberg a interprété "Vän på vägen".
